Aloha friends and travelers,

Whenever I find myself traveling, whether excited about experiencing new cultures and locations, or badly in need of some rest and relaxation, I usually try and connect with someone from that area beforehand. A couple well placed words of advice can make the difference in a trip where you might be overwhelmed by choices, new experiences and options. A friendly local with some good advice or directions can have a positive effect on a vacation, and it's this type of "travel karma" that we are attempting to re-create here.

It is our sincere hope that the views, insight and information contained on this website may be of service to you. An informed decision is a valuable one. However, as with any information or advice or media; make up your own mind based upon your experiences.

A few select pointers that might be of service are to do a little homework and research, and pre-book your activities before going on vacation. Not only does it save valuable "Maui Time" but it might save you from booking with the timeshare-booking agents that will sell you just about anything to get you to attend a high-pressure sales presentation. Do you have time (or the stomach) for this?? As you walk up and down Front Street, or South Kihei Road, notice how many friendly sales agents offer you 'free tourist information', specials on activities, or just a chance to pet their cute little pet pig. The magic words to keep the salespeople off your back is: "Thanks, we're leaving tomorrow to go home". Game over.

When you're doing your online research, be leery of "honesty themed" websites that are funneling prospective clients in only one or two businesses. Fair, unbiased websites should leave the decision process to you.

In the wedding department, I would also advise against the recommendations of the Maui Wedding Association and their advice. Your wedding is a precious moment, and many of the individuals that the MWA recommend are not credible or professional. The MWA makes no guarantees about the individuals it recommends, so why would you?

One last online tip: when doing your Google searches for Maui weddings or activities, take note of the companies that make the "Top 10". These are the 'cream of the crop' organizations that got to their high ranking through hard work and generating a lot of genuine interest; unlike the "paid for" listings (on the right hand side of the page). Any company with an advertising budget can buy a listing, but shouldn't they be spending that money on the upkeep of their condos??

In conclusion, I'd just like to say thanks for taking the time and energy to not only educate yourself on the best vacation, but to keep the information and ideas flowing, from whatever part of the world you're in. Drop us a line and keep the "travel karma" going!

Aloha,

Mr. K
