From the Editors:

Aloha and thanks so much for dropping into the Maui Guide! If what you are looking for is an honest, entertaining, informative “secret map” to the ins and outs, dos and don'ts of the “Valley Isle” you've come to the right place.

Your Maui adventure can really be as enchanting, stimulating, and rewarding as you imagine it to be…the key is to be well informed and well, realistic about the whole thing. For example, there are times when we get island-wide rain…for weeks at a time. The truth is, you could pull the “I vacationed in Maui and it poured the whole time” card—so what do you do with it? Does it mean your hard earned and intricately planned vacation is a flop? Of course not! There are hundreds of less-than-tropical-fantasy activities and sights to see on Maui , and if you know what to look for and where to explore (usually from someone that has lived here for a considerable amount of time) you will be able to remember your vacation as unique and exciting no matter what the circumstance.

On a basic note, we realize that everyone is different out there, and while some people desire the “Resort Package trip” to Maui (you know…sunburns, snorkeling, umbrella drinks, sunsets and whale watches) others are looking for a more “Explore the Beach, and Jungle, and Mountains all while wearing the same pair of Birkenstocks” deal…while some people just want to golf (who cares where you stay, right, as long as it's putting distance from a great course).

The Editors here at the Guide are determined to provide you with the most honest, complete, and (we hope, we hope) entertaining “map” to Maui that you'll ever stumble across.

We want to cover all of your bases, and this is why the Maui Guide is a collaboration of forces. We didn't want to leave anyone out or force feed you with only one set of opinions.

Here's a little bit about us…

Klaus Bandisch is the publisher behind ParadiseMaui.com—possibly the top “destination Maui ” site on the internet. Through the site, Klaus has become a Maui expert by researching literally thousands of questions that people from around the world have sent him about Maui . He incorporated a ton of this info into the guide. By living here, working here and playing here, Klaus is an invaluable recourse.

Jon Blum has traveled to Maui over twenty times so he really knows Maui from a visitor's stand point. He's also the originator of the Guide. It's truly through his hard work and determination that the Maui Guide got such a solid foundation to build on. If you have questions about Maui sightseeing, choosing a restaurant, finding the right hotel or condo without getting ripped off, selecting boat excursions or land tours, and the best time of year to travel, Jon's got the word. You can find a link to Jon's website on our preferred vendors page (all material copyright 2004 by Jon Blum, www.mauihawaii.org

I, Starr Tendo , was born right here in Wailuku, Maui and raised on the slopes of Haleakala. As a feature writer and reporter for the Maui Weekly, I have had my finger on the pulse of the island for a long time. Hey, I'll be honest with you…I might not know when it's most economical to fly here, but I can sure let you into a few things that you would never find out from your hotel concierge.

Check back with us from time to time. The guide is growing and developing. We are constantly working! Updates happen monthly, weekly, hourly! As soon as we discover something that can be of service to you, the traveler, we post it.

We'd love to hear from you guys and get in on your Maui travels. Also, if you have any specific questions, please feel free to contact us at editorsdesk@mauiqueen.com .

So, whether you've been day dreaming about sipping Mai tai's with the reflection of a resort pool flickering off of your shades, or lacing up those hiking boots and trekking through the Haleakala Crater—sit back, relax and browse the Guide—the most comprehensive Maui guide on the planet.

See you around.

Sincerely,

The Editors.
