Volunteers Sought for “Neighborhood Watch” Program for Coral Reefs
Community members are invited to participate in a volunteer program that trains people to serve as volunteers at snorkel sites and onboard recreational tour vessels. The objective is to preserve and protect Maui’s reefs by educating visitors and residents. Training workshops begin Wed., Jan. 19, 6 p.m. at Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary Education Center. Volunteer Opportunity with Challenge Maui

Manta Rays of the Pacific: Conservation and Habitat Use. Presented by Tim Clark, science coordinator for Manta Pacific Research Foundation. Manta rays are being heavily fished in Indonesia for traditional medicine supplies. Recent studies indicate that these graceful creatures could be fished to extinction.
