Volunteers Sought for “Neighborhood Watch” Program for Coral Reefs

Community members are invited to participate in a volunteer program that trains people to serve as volunteers at snorkel sites and onboard recreational tour vessels. The objective is to preserve and protect Maui’s reefs by educating visitors and residents. Training workshops begin Wed., Jan. 19, 6 p.m. at Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary Education Center. Volunteer Opportunity with Challenge Maui

Challenge Maui a nonprofit organization for the disabled, is looking for volunteers to create a Maui accessibility guide. The guide will include Maui businesses and recreation areas and will be distributed to those with disabilities. Volunteers will obtain information, design, print, advertise and distribute the guide. Free “Sea Talk” Presentation

Manta Rays of the Pacific: Conservation and Habitat Use. Presented by Tim Clark, science coordinator for Manta Pacific Research Foundation. Manta rays are being heavily fished in Indonesia for traditional medicine supplies. Recent studies indicate that these graceful creatures could be fished to extinction. Dog Training Classes

The Maui Humane Society is accepting enrollment for dog training classes that will start in January. The Tuesday night class will start on Jan. 4, and the Wednesday night class begins on Jan 5.
